SYRACUSE, N.Y. —Varsity Pizza has seen a decline in business since the pandemic started. With most of its sales coming from Syracuse University students the only business coming through the doors has been from locals. Varsity Pizza has had to furlough most of its staff and has been dealing with the struggles since March.
Manager Diana Hester says times have been difficult for the popular pizza place that has been a favorite to Syracuse University students since 1926.
“We’ve been really slow we’ve been on half-staff since March,” Hester said.
Hester stressed the fact that student sales are a major part of Varsity Pizza’s profits. She says she is excited to head into the fall as it means the return of Syracuse University students.
“We’re hoping it will pick up in the next few weeks after they quarantine for two weeks,” Hester said.
With students returning in the coming weeks, Varsity Pizza is hopeful to see an increase in sales from now into the rest of the school year.
