CANARY ISLANDS, SPAIN (NCC NEWS)– The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of  Las Palmas has left 100 homes destroyed and 5000 evacuated after an eruption occurred late last night. No injuries or deaths have been reported, but the eruptions and seismic activity continued into early this morning.

The island, located off the northwest coast of Africa, is home to 80,000 people. The Canary Islands Volcanology Institute reported, in a Facebook post, that over 25,000 earthquakes were recorded over the previous nine days leading up to the eruption yesterday. The volcano last erupted in 1971,
