Ways You Can Go Green With Climate Change Ways You Can Go Green With Climate Change

By Michelle Houston SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)– A new bill was passed by the New York State Senate this morning to help with climate change in New York state. One of the approaches is to cut down on the emission of greenhouse gases.

Naomi Zulcher is an urban forester and she says greenhouse gases  are the main thing that should be focused on.

“Greenhouse gases are the primary instigators of climate change and that’s why there is such an interest in reducing greenhouse gases,” said Zulcher.

Zulcher says there are several ways people can help with climate change. She says one thing is that more people can use public transportation to help.

“Cars are a major producer of greenhouse gases. Every car has an exhaust system — what’s coming out of that exhaust system,” said Zulcher.

She also suggests not using an air conditioner during the summer to help save energy.  Zulcher says  the effects of climate change are seen in the harsh weather.

“The increase number of storms and their severity, and you can look around the United States, the number storms and severity, ” said Zulcher.

But Zulcher says climate change affects our lives as well.

“All of this impacting people’s abilities to live their normal lives,” said Zulcher.

There is no word yet on whether the New York State Assembly passed the bill, but it is expected to pass. But some prominent politicians are showing their support for the bill on Twitter in the meantime.

Yeah that’s the New York State Senate passed a law this morning that deals with the problem of climate change. I spoke to Naomi Zurcher who is a urban forester and she says if you want to deal with climate change you have to look at the problem of the emission of greenhouse gases and she also says there’s stuff people who live in Syracuse can do to help in the meantime.
Naomi Zulcher: greenhouse gases are the primary instigators of climate change and that’s why there is such an interest in reducing greenhouse gases.”
Michelle: Zulcher says people can help fight climate change by driving less and taking public transportation.

Naomi Zulcher: Cars are a major producer of greenhouse gases every car has an exhaust system what’s coming out of that exhaust system.
Michelle: She also says climate change can affect weather as well.

Naomi Zulcher: The increase number of storms and their severity and you can look around the United States the number storms and severity.

Michelle: But Zulcher says climate change is affecting our lives.

Now no word yet on whether or not the state assembly passed the bill but as I mentioned earlier it is expected to pass. Now one other thing Zulcher that Zulcher mentioned that Syracuse residents can do to help is to be cautious of AC use. She says using the AC in hot and humid weather like this can be another problem that adds to climate change.
