Good Afternoon Central New York. This is your N.C.C. News Brief, I’m Hannah Fleager.
Events are taking place all across the CNY region to honor members of the United States Armed Forces today in commemoration of Veterans Day. Earlier today Onondaga Community College held a special concert to honor Veterans. People from all across the state of New York traveled to the performance. OCC Music Professor, David Rudari said the purpose of this concert of this concert is all about giving back.
David Rudari: “We always have to do our best in a performance, but especially with something like this. We have people who I saw quote signed a blank check for America. You know and gave everything for their military service. And it’s up to us to do our best to return the honor that they’ve paid us.”
The Salvation Army kicked off it’s Red Kettle Campaign today. The goal of the campaign, which was created in 1981, is to raise money to help feed the homeless during the holiday season. Jim and Julie Boeheim helped kick start the campaign this morning at Destiny USA. At the event Major David Dean shared with the public the goal for this year’s campaign.
Major David Dean: “Now our goal this year is very ambitious. We are looking to raise $250,000 in the red kettles that you see here. They are not all that big, but starting today they will be all over Onondaga County.”
And finally in sports it turned out to be a busy weekend in the Carrier Dome, with Dino Babers and the Orange football team defeating the Louisville Cardinals on Friday night 54 to 23 and Jim Boeheim and the Men’s Basketball team defeating the Morehead State Eagles on Saturday by a score of 84 to 70.
That does it for this N.C.C. News Brief, I’m Hannah Fleager
