Brandon Ross: Good afternoon. Today’s Wednesday September 23rd, 2020. For N-C-C News, I’m Brandon Ross.

Traffic on 690 is now all cleared up after an RV caught fire this morning. The Syracuse Fire Department says the RV’s engine combusted as it drove onto the off-ramp to I-81. Traffic backed up for more than a mile because of the incident. The Department also says flames were out within five minutes and no injuries were reported.

In COVID news, Central New York’s positive test rate is back down to 1 percent today. This coming from the Department of Health after the last figure of 1.5 percent clocked in as the second-worst in the state. Cases have also declined on campus at Syracuse University. The school reported that active cases dropped from 30 to 27 this afternoon.

And starting on October 1st, the United Way of C-N-Y is helping to launch a 21-day racial equity challenge. Central New Yorkers can sign up to receive daily emails with resources to learn about issues of race. United Way spokesperson Ray Manassa hopes participants take the time to self-reflect.

Ray Manassa: “This is really an important piece for us to be able to say, you know, maybe I can stop and look at things in terms of a different point of view. Maybe I can get out of just where my position is and think of how someone else might view this.”

Brandon Ross: The challenge ends with a community conversation hosted by antiracism expert and best-selling author Ibram Kendi on October 21st.
