Finnerty: I’m John Finnerty reporting for N-C-C News. Here are the stories making the news today, April fifth twenty-twenty-two.
Baseball returns in Central New York tonight as the Syracuse Mets look to open their season against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Railriders. Its Opening Day includes new opportunities for fans at NBT Bank Stadium this year while incorporating more local businesses.
Michael Tricarico: “One thing that we heard from our fans last year and fro the past few years was that they wanted some more food options and some local food options and we’re certainly happy to do that.”
Finnerty: Rock Chalk Jayhawk! The Kansas men’s basketball team defeated North Carolina last night to claim the National Championship, their first since two-thousand eight. The Jayhawks made the largest comeback in a NCAA championship game overcoming a sixteen point deficit.
Bill Self: “To win when your team had to fight and come back the way they did, it makes this one off the charts. I thought this would be good and this is a heck of a lot better than I thought it’d be.”
Finnerty: You may have to take a new route to work in the morning as Interstate 81 is preparing for a ten day construction. There will be overnight closures between Exit 16, the Nedrow exit, and Exit 17, the South Salina Street and Brighton Avenue exit. New York State Transportation Department says that this is the start of the new season.
“You know we have two seasons here in Syracuse: We have winter and construction. So, if there’s no snow on the ground, no snow flying, D-O-T is out there doing some kind of work.”
Finnerty: Today’s high is 61 degrees and the low is 42. It will be mostly cloudy today, with a chance of rainfall overnight. Tomorrow’s high is 61 and low is 47 with a 40 percent chance of rain.
