Sean Manzella: I’m Sean Manzella reporting for N-C-C News. Here are the stories making news today, April seventh. This morning, Governor Cuomo gave his daily COVID-19 briefing. One of the key points was a tragic uptick in deaths.

Governor Andrew Cuomo: “Eighty nine New Yorkers have lost their lives to this virus. That is up from forty seven fifty eight. That is the largest single day increase.”

Manzella:

Governor Cuomo stayed optimistic saying a number of hospitals have hit a plateau of total cases. In Central New York many part time workers are trying to make ends meet. Troy Boyer, a-k-a ‘The Candy Man’ stopped ubering following a county wide recommendation to shelter in place.

Troy Boyer: “It wasn’t worth it for me. I mean there are drivers out there still driving, cause that’s their main job. I don’t know they do it, but that’s their main source of income. They have no choice.”

Manzella:
Boyer says he misses the students and can’t wait for their return. It’s been nearly a month since the last class was held at S-U, but the move to online school is far from over. Syracuse sophomore Neha Penmetsa says the switch to virtual school has been difficult.

Neha Penmetsa: “It does definitely like affect grades, and especially for college students, cause like when you think about it this is the stuff we’re learning for like our future career and stuff, we’re kind of losing out on that experience.”

Manzella: A high of 62 degrees today with partly cloudy skies heading towards some evening showers a low of 41 tonight. For N-C-C News, I’m Sean Manzella reporting. You can find full stories on our website, NCCNewsOnline.com.
