New York State lawmakers are imposing a ban on most types of single-use plastic bags…Amelia Hoffman, from the sustainability office at SUNY E-S-F says that the move will be a step forward for Central New York…”: It clogs up our waterways so our water and waste management systems, plastic bags get caught in those collection systems. They get caught in the recycling collection systems, so I think it’ll make some of our public services a little smoother running.”
Central New York is dealing with a shortage of lifeguards, in Syracuse, less than half of the required number of lifeguards have applied. Dewitt recreation official Dianne Dewitt knows what’s discouraging teen interest…<" I know it's quite high for young people to come up with that money and also I just don't think people have the incentive to take a class"
And Fashion week is coming to Syracuse this Thursday. Fashion week executive director Lisa Butler says the focus isn't just on dresses and shoes, but fashion week's partnership with the food bank…<"In our five years that we've been partnering with the food bank, we have raised over
10,000 dollars, which feeds 30,000 people who live in Central New York ."
