Today Onondaga County Executive, Ryan McMahon, announced the fall budget proposal will include money to help day care centers.
McMahon: “38% of the kids in the whole county are kindergarten ready and 22% in the city. So we really need to engage the day that the babies are born.”
Riles: The county’s budget proposal meeting will take place September 17th.
E-Cigarettes are affecting high schoolers in Central New York. Local teacher, David Graf, says vaping has become a growing problem with his students at Port Byron Senior High.
Graf: “I had 80 kids in 9th grade and I probably had 10 that were suspended outside of school for vaping in school.”
Riles: In November, the legal age for vaping and smoking will rise from 18 to 21 in New York.
Liverpool High school senior Bryce Mills, will compete in the Elite Kickboxing Championship tonight in Syracuse. Event organizer, Amar Abdallah, says half the people attending the match, will be there for Mills.
Abdallah: “He’s got 300 of his family, friends and you know this venue is a 600 people venue.”
Riles:The event starts at 7 p-m at Embassy Suites in Syracuse.
