LAUREN HELMBRECHT:
Hi, I’m Lauren Helmbrecht reporting for N-C-C News. Today is August 5th, 20-21 and here are the latest stories.
Following the recent harassment claims against Governor Cuomo, a Syracuse organization that provides resources for domestic and sexual abuse survivors is speaking out. Vera House’s Amanda EyeAm says the accusers are brave, especially for speaking out against someone in power.
AMANDA EYEAM:
“It silences people who have been victimized, who may have thought about coming forward but realized what that actually means.”
HELMBRECHT:
EyeAm says victims can suffer from anxiety, depression and have trouble sleeping for years after.
On a lighter note, a Central New York tradition is back for it’s 25th year. Brew at the Zoo is sharing the love and the food. Friends of the Zoo Executive Director Carrie Large says this year, they invited outside food vendors to dish up the grub.
CARRIE LARGE:
“We’re really dedicated for the local economy to grow so we wanted to have the local food trucks here and share the wealth in a sense.”
HELMBRECHT:
The event is sold out and kicks off tomorrow afternoon, but people can participate in an online auction from home. Also this weekend, Shakespeare In the Park returns to Thornden Park Amphitheater with a special local twist. “The Comedy of Errors” hits the stage and Executive Director Ronnie Bell says viewers might recognize where a couple characters are from: Syracuse, Italy.
RONNIE BELL:
“It always perks up the audience when they hear the name of the town. It’s like watching a movie and having Syracuse mentioned.”
HELMBRECHT:
Anyone who’s outdoors this weekend is likely to perk up, thanks to warm weather and sunny skies this afternoon and tomorrow. For N-C-C News, I’m Lauren Helmbrecht reporting. You can find full stories on our website, N-C-C-News dot-online.
