NICE: A PLANE THAT WAS HEADING FROM DETROIT TO FRANKFURT GERMANY MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT SYRACUSE’S HANCOCK’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THE FLIGHT REPORTED AN ENGINE FAILURE AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT IN SYRACUSE. OFFICIALS SAID THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES AND THE LANDING DID NOT AFFECT THE AIRPORT’S OPERATIONS.

WEISMAN: MICRON TECHNOLOGY HAS FOUND TWO SPECIES OF ENDANGERED BATS ON ITS WOODED SITE. IT’S HERE THE COMPANY PLANS TO BUILD ONE OF THE NATION’S LARGEST SEMICONDUCTOR PLANTS. THE PRESENCE OF THE INDIANA BAT AND NORTHERN LONG EARED BAT, BOTH PROTECTED BY THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT WON’T DOOM OR DELAY THE PROJECT. MICRON WILL BE REQUIRED TO DO ADDITIONAL STUDIES AND BUY OR SET ASIDE LAND ELSEWHERE TO REPLACE THE HABITAT. MICRON PLANS TO BREAK GROUND IN NOVEMBER.

NICE: AT NEARBY COLGATE UNIVERSITY, AT LEAST 15 STUDENTS ARE SHOWING SYMPTOMS FOR NOROVIRUS. 2 OF THE 15 HAVE TESTED POSITIVE. THE GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESS CAUSES VOMITING AND DIARRHEA. AN ADDITIONAL 54 SUSPECTED CASES ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING BOTH STUDENTS AND PEOPLE LIVING OR WORKING IN HAMILTON.
