It’s Tuesday June 16th and here’s what NCC News is working on.
In Central New York fireworks are becoming a bigger nuisance. The Onondaga County emergency dispatchers say calls from all over the county came in last night about the disruptive flares.
In a recent news briefing, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said that he doesn’t want to criminalize people for using fireworks, but he does want everyone to be safe and have some peace and quiet.
But what will be enforced is Governor Cuomo’s New York State police reform and reinvention collaborative. In his daily briefing yesterday Cuomo said that all local governments and law enforcement agencies have until April 1st of next year to draft a police reform plan.
GOV. ANDREW CUOMO:
Every community has to now come to the table as a collaborative, local leadership, police, the community activist, and redesign their public safety function.
REPORTER:
Cuomo says failure to reconstruct this plan will result in defunding.
Over in Moravia New York a summer camp had to make one of its toughest decisions.
ERICA HEIM:
It was certainly really disappointing for us to make the decision.
REPORTER:
That’s Erica Heim the president of the Moravia Recreation Nonprofit Organization in Moravia New York. She said After 70 years of hosting the Moravia Summer Recreation Program she is saddened that this year’s camp had to be cancelled.
HEIM:
I feel like the decision was made with the best interest of the students, the staff.. The safety and concern and overall welfare of everybody,
REPORTER:
Heim said that with the limitations and regulations forced on them by COVID-19 the necessary changes would not have been done in time for their early June deadline.
Voting is different this year because of the pandemic we’ll have more details on the process for next week’s primaries.
