Here are the stories we’re covering today Thursday June 4th.
In Central New York, Restaurants reopen for outdoor dining starting today! According to new guidelines from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office, outdoor tables must be 6 feet apart and staff must wear face masks. Customers also need to wear face coverings when waiting to be seated.
Ryan McMahon says the reopening will be a huge help for small businesses
(Ryan McMahon):
“These restaurants are facing decisions whether to stay open or closed. So we really need to support our local mom and pop shop restaurants now. Keep them going, let’s keep them busy over the next few weeks here.”
Nail salons are unsure of when they will be reopening but a salon in Syracuse has already prepared for the day they will be open again.
Our news reporter Gabby Riles spoke to Nail Salon Owner, Diana Huang, who says she paid for her employees to take COVID-19 certification courses.
This is to ensure they would know all the CDC guidelines for reopening salons.
(Diana Huang): “People rely on us so I feel responsible for all the girls in the salon. I buy all the protection, disinfectant, everything we needed as they stated on the website.”
Peaceful protests in Syracuse continue in the wake of George Floyd’s death. Floyd died while in police custody on May 25th in Minneapolis, Minnesota and protestors demand justice for his and many other black lives with similar deaths due to police brutality.
Moving forward, cash tolls in the New York Thruway resume today after nearly two and a half months of its suspension on March 22nd. The NY Thruway has also installed plexiglass to separate collectors and motorists to protect against the spread of Covid-19. Toll collectors will wear masks.
