Casullo: GOVERNOR CUOMO MADE IT OFFICIAL TO ALLOW FOR OUTDOOR SOCIALLY DISTANT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATIONS, STARTING JUNE 26TH. BUT, THERE’S A IS A LIMITATION: ONLY 150 PEOPLE TOTAL ARE ALLOWED TO ATTEND.
Casullo: MANY HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE AREA HAVE MORE THAN 150 GRADUATES ALONE.
Casullo: IN A LOT OF THE CITIES WHERE PROTESTS ARE TAKING PLACE, PEOPLE ARE WALKING MILES AND THEY ALL SHARE ONE SIMILAR MESSAGE, THAT BLACK LIVES MATTER. THERE’S SMALL VICTORIES HAPPENING THROUGHOUT THESE PROTESTS. IN WASHINGTON DC THEY RENAMED THE SECTION OF 16TH STREET TO BLACK LIVES MATTER PLAZA.
SHASCHE ALLEN: “IN THE MIDST OF EVERYTHING, THIS SMALL SYMBOLIC GESTURE OF YOU MATTER YOU ARE SEEN, YOU’RE HERE.”
Casullo: STREETS WERE FILLED WITH OVER TWO THOUSAND PEOPLE IN DOWNTOWN SYRACUSE THIS PAST SATURDAY FOR A PEACEFUL PROTEST.
Casullo: ONE WOMAN CAME OUT TO THE PROTEST WITH HER HUSBAND AND HER TEENAGE SON AND DAUGHTER. MOTHER, AMY PENTO, SAID HER FAMILY IS SCARED OF GETTING COVID-19 BECAUSE OF THE CROWDS OF PEOPLE, BUT THEY STILL WANTED TO SHOW UP TO THE PROTEST.
AMY PENTO: “I SAID HOW ABOUT IF WE GO WE STAY ON THE EDGE TO DISTANCE, AND BRING WATER TO SUPPORT IN A SMALL WAY, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO BE IN THE MIDDLE I AM JUST TO NERVOUS ABOUT THE PANDEMIC, IT’S STILL HERE, IT’S STILL REAL.”
