AVA HU: I’m Ava Hu reporting for NCC News. Here are the stories making headlines today, Tuesday, May 4th.
HU: As New York State restaurants and businesses will be able to operate at a higher capacity, some restaurant owners like Abby Vega do not think that the new guidelines will have a large impact.
ABBY VEGA: “We still have to keep the six-foot rule intact, I mean I don’t really know how much things will change, just as far as like people being in here and being able to get up and walk around I don’t really think that’s gonna change any time soon.”
HU: New York’s moratorium on residential evictions will continue through the end of August. Some landlords argue that tenants will abuse the eviction freeze. Rent from Ben owner Ben Tupper hopes this will be the last time the moratorium is extended.
BEN TUPPER: I personally know people who have their jobs now, who are making money, and are not paying rent because ‘I don’t have to, I can’t get evicted.’
HU: Nationally, today is 45 day, celebrating the history of the 45 R-P-M vinyl record. The resurging trend of vinyl is leading by young people. Syracuse University music history professor Theo Cateforis connects the single to the startup.
THEO CATEFORIS: “Part of this romance with the 45 R-P-M seven-inch single is its association with the kind of independent realm of like smaller bands. This is what allows you to get your foot in the door.”
HU: It’s cloudy today with a rainy afternoon. You can find the full stories on our website, NCCNews.online.com. For NCC News, I’m Ava Hu.
