Jonathan Danilich: I’m Jonathan Danilich reporting for NCC News. Here are the stories making news today, November 12th.

An investigation continues this morning after racist messages were found in an SU dorm. Governor Andrew Cuomo says the New York State Police’s Hate Crimes Task Force will be investigating. Students like James Goudie are concerned with how the University has handled the issue.

James Goudie: “It seems from their handling of the issue that they’re afraid of dialogue about it, about just facing the blunt truth of the issue where I think that is that we are not as inclusive and diverse as the campus wants to appear to people”

JD: University Chancellor Kent Syverud said in a statement this morning that he is disappointed that the University’s leadership team did not communicate more swiftly and broadly with students.

In an effort to provide alternate forms of transit, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh introduced Gotcha, a bike share system earlier this year. With the first major snowfall of the season hitting overnight, Syracuse community manager for Gotcha Paul Colabufo reminds residents that safety should be a top priority during the winter months.

Paul Colabufo: “People might not be able to stop quite as fast in the winter and things like that so its really important to follow the rules of the road, act like a car, that way cars know where you’re going.”>

JD: Syracuse Stallions season is underway, with the local American Basketball Association team winning its first two games in front of sold-out home crowds. Owner and president Mike Sugamosto says it’s all about the community.

Mike Sugamosto:”Kids are always welcome to come into our locker room and get autographs, it’s why we do it I would say, it’s more for the community than just playing basketball.”

JD: And in the weather, snow fell throughout central New York last night and that is expected to continue through today. The National Weather service says there is a chance of up to 5 inches of new accumulation tonight in Syracuse.
