BR: Good afternoon. For NCC News, I’m Brandon Ross.
There’s nine days left in Syracuse’s parking amnesty program. People with parking tickets dating back as far as 1997 are getting the chance to pay them off without late fees until September 25th. But if you wind up with a decades-old bill, you don’t want to be late this time. On Monday, the Syracuse common council voted to hire a collection agency to recover anything left unpaid.
Meanwhile, New York’s COVID infection rate is back below 1 percent. Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement this morning, but he also warned
AC: “we’re not yet at a point where we can get back to normal life. That is just a fact. They talk about the new normal. We still have to manage COVID.”
BR: Right now, Onondaga County is managing to keep the infection rate low at 0.5 percent.
And because of the pandemic, uninsured New Yorkers can now apply for state healthcare coverage through the end of the year. This extends the original deadline of September 15th. This special enrollment period can be used to buy insurance from the state marketplace or direct from insurers. State officials hope this will prevent people from dodging the doctor’s office.
