Westcott Barber: Rock and Roll While You Wait Westcott Barber to Move Locations

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – After four years at 713 Westcott Street, Westcott Barber is moving its location to a different spot. But still on Westcott. In addition to walk-ins, they will be expanding from five barbers to seven, creating a faster turnaround by allowing employees to take more appointments.

Westcott Barber owner, Doug Spangenberg, said they’ll be adding more behind-the-scene luxuries like a washing machine, a break room for the barbers, and hair washing sinks.

“A bathroom with a lock on it, which is very nice, very high society,” added Spangenberg.

They hope to finish the move in the month of November, but its no simple task.

“We’re going into a place that you have to change the zoning, you have to change the occupancy, you have to do all of this stuff to get it up and running and really in the city of Syracuse they do not make new businesses or expanding businesses an easy situation,” said Spangenberg.

Spangenberg says that barber shops are necessary everywhere and they really affect people in a five mile radius. He says in terms of advertising and customer outreach, its easy to reach your audience.

“Instagram, word of mouth, facebook. That’s about it,” said Spangenberg.

Westcott Barber isn’t like the other local barber shops that have Syracuse University sports decor. Its a hard rock atmosphere. Spangenberg started his career as a videographer on tour with bands. He wanted to be closer to home and with his family more often so he went to barber school. He took his business to Westcott Street and revamped a 30-year-old beauty shop.

“This is very cool neighborhood. I love it,” said Spangenberg.
