What German students think about Trump What German students think about Trump

“Impeachment Inquiry against President Trump”– this headline was a big topic in the US media in the last weeks. But not only in the U.S. If you would have bought a German newspaper you may also found on the front page headlines like: “Donald Trump’s Amtsenthebung” (the English translation is Donald Trumps impeachment).

The President of the United States got a lot of publicity in the last years. But since the election in 2016, German newspapers, radio and TV stations didn’t write and talk that much about him. What do German citizens think about one of the most powerful persons in the world after all this media hype?

Julia Mahl, NCC international correspondent, went to the Stuttgart Media University and asked the students about their opinion of Trump and the impeachment.

STORIES ABOUT DONALD TRUMP ALWAYS HAVE A CERTAIN NEWS POTENTIAL.
GERMAN MEDIA STUDENT CHIARA HILLER KNOWS THAT THIS IS NO REASON TO STAY SERIOUS.

(***SOT Chiara – 0:14 ***)
(“So when I was working for a German T-V station, whenever we had nothing really big happening, nothing to talk about, we would just look for something Trump did in the last 24 hours and make him look like really funny.”)

(***JULIA***)

THIS ALWAYS WENT PERFECTLY WELL, HILLER SAYS.
GERMANS SEEM TO LOVE MAKING FUN OF DONALD TRUMP.
WHAT COULD BE A REASON FOR THIS? SONJA LINGG, ALSO A MEDIA STUDENT FROM STUTTGART, HAS A GUESS.

(***SOT Sonja – 0:10***)

(“I think it’s hard to have a neutral opinion, like an objective one, about Trump because all the news that we read are always really negative.”)

(***JULIA***)

ESPECIALLY REGARDING THE IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY, LINGG GOT ANOTHER ASPECT WHICH REFLECTS BADLY ON THE PRESIDENT.

(***SOT Sonja – 0:07***)

(“There are so many things to say and instead of really reacting to it, he’s just like: ‘No, that’s wrong’.”)

(***JULIA***)

PEOPLE SAY: BAD PRESS IS BETTER THAN NO PRESS.
BUT THIS MAY NOT APPLY TO THE U-S PRESIDENT.
