SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — An opportunity to practice yoga with the largest animal at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is coming up next Saturday. This is a new event that has just been added this year to help bring more awareness to Asian Elephant Awareness month.
An admission ticket to this event includes an hour long yoga session at the overlook of Helga Beck Asian Elephant Preserve. After the yoga class concludes, there will be more elephant fun to be explored.
“You’ll actually be able to see what we do with the elephants…what we call stretch training or elephant yoga,” said Ashely Shepard, the elephant manager at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. “Then people will be able to be released into the zoo a little bit early before the general public does.”
Tickets for this event can be bought online and each ticket is $30. The money collected from this event will all go to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the National Elephant Herpesvirus Laboratory (EEHV). During this event, the zoo will also have souvenirs for purchase.
“We also have shirts for sale that will be going up,” said Shepard. “There will be a link on the website for those as well…all the profit will be going back to that as well.”
Yoga with the elephants will take place Saturday August 21st at 8:30 in the morning. The zoo is looking to add another day of Yoga with the elephants this month. More information on these events can be found on the zoo website.
