By Paisley Skeith SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)- More than 700 tickets were sold in two hours for a Youtube comedian’s show at the Palace Theatre in Syracuse Thursday night. Cody Ko is a Youtuber who is well-known for his short comedy skits on the app “Vine.”
Cody Ko’s “Tiny Meat Gang” tour will take place at eight o’clock Thursday.
“It’s a podcast that they do sort of a comedy podcast but there’s sort of this lonely island sort of thing but more specifically pop, rap, a lot of joke songs, hilarity ensues etcetera so this tour is bringing that out on the road,” the promoter who brought the sold out show to the Palace, Patrick Touhey, said.
Touhey added that it is not typical to have a sold out show at the Palace and several factors played a role in the booking of the show.
“We kinda have to make decisions based on whatever quote on quote clout an artist has in terms of touring history and digital statistics when it comes to social media streaming etcetera.”
Cody Ko fan, Julia Lunger, said she is looking forward to the show because she watches Youtube more than television.
“Cody Ko’s videos are maybe 15 minutes or less. It kind of shows that people who subscribe to Youtube and use it as their entertainment source don’t really have as long of attention spans and they just wanna see something quick and funny before they move on to the next short video,” Lunger said.
Lunger first became familiar with Ko three years ago.
“Social media is kinda funny because random things will blow up. So sometimes there’s one tweet or one video that he’ll make that everyone will get a kick out of and will retweet, favorite, like, or subscribe a lot more than usual,” Lunger said.
Tonight’s show is just one of 26 shows planned for the U.S. tour. The tour’s next stop is Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
