[Jared Valentin] NBT bank stadium has brought minor league baseball to fans all over Central New York for decades. But when the Syracuse Mets relocated to upstate New York in 2018, the connection between the 315 and the major league team down in the big apple became a lot stronger. With MLB opening day tomorrow, central New Yorkers have to wait just one day later before Syracuse finally returns to the diamond. The stadium may be empty now but come 48 hours, these seats will be packed with fans from all over the 315. Mets play-by -play broadcaster Evan Stockton knows how exciting baseball being back is to the Syracuse community, and says it’s a sign that winter is behind us.

[Evan Stockton] Having this team back playing games again means summer is almost here, spring is actually here and so many of us, we get through January, we get through February, and we start thinking of the warm nights at the ballpark with that cold beverage and a hot dog. So it’s really really great to have the team back and what it means for this community is that that gathering space that they all get to have in the summertime is back again, it’s all good news.

[Jared Valentin] Not only are fans passionate, but the families who attend the ballpark with their children are shaping the next generation of Mets fans.

[Evan Stockton] And having young kids, young boys, young girls come to the ballpark with their parents, their aunt, their uncle, their moms and dads, their brothers and sisters, and seeing all of this New York Mets stuff, that is literally breeding New York Mets fans for life.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – It’s been 186 days since the Syracuse Mets last played a baseball game, but the wait is finally over. Syracuse begins its 2024 season with a three game home series against the Rochester Red Wings.

Mets play-by-play broadcaster Evan Stockton knows how important Syracuse baseball is to the community and says returning to the diamond is a sign that Winter is behind us.

“Having this team back playing games again means Summer is almost here and Spring is actually here,” Stockton said. “So many of us get through January and February and we start thinking of the warm nights at the ballpark with that cold beverage and a hot dog.”

Stockton also claims that the passionate families who bring their children to the ballpark are shaping the next generation of Syracuse and New York Mets fans.

“Having young boys and girls come to the ballpark with their parents, their aunt, their uncle, their moms and dads, their brothers and sisters and seeing all of this New York Mets stuff, that is literally breeding New York Mets fans for life.”
