SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Beginning Monday, March 7, Centro announced it will institute new bus fares that will reduce transportation costs for most Centro bus riders.
The new fares are set for $1 per ride for adult users, and 50 cents per ride for those who qualify for half fare, including seniors over 65, those with disabilities, and children ages 6 to 9.
For frequent Centro riders, like Doreen, the changes come at a time where money is tight.
“I think it’s fantastic, you know. I’m a single mom with two kids, so it saves me money,” Doreen said.
The fare changes represent a decrease in the adult price from $2 per ride in Syracuse and Onondaga county and from $1.50 in Utica. The new fare prices also set equal fare rates for all of Centro’s ride passes.
Davonna Williams says that Monday’s change will make things much more convenient.
“I think it helps to get me from Point A to B without so much of a hassle,” Williams said, “I think it’s more convenient for people that need it.”
For Doreen, Davonna, and the thousands of others who use Centro everyday, the changes can’t come soon enough.
