Jordan Pierre : Here on 514 West Genesee St is Habitat For Humanity an organization I know many of you may know little about but the impact they have on those they help are everlasting.

Pierre: Syracuse Habitat For Humanity is a non profit that helps people of low income around the world build or improve a place they call home. They are known for the construction of some of the homes here in Syracuse. I spoke with the CEO Sarah about what compelled her to work here and here answer was heart warming.

Sarah Bruce: I’ve been working for an architecture firm and just working on working with other clients. I just felt like something was missing. And so when I saw an opportunity at Habitat for Humanity and saw that the work would really be able to have more of a direct impacts on helping people to improve their living situation, I just thought that it seemed like a perfect opportunity to be able to put my skills to use in a way that would enable me to help other people.

Pierre: The Willingness and Desire to help other people is embedded in the organization. Restore is apart of Habitat for Humanity, where you can see what means to be a servant of all 14. I spoke with Nick Good fellow, who oversees the operation.

Nick Barone: Restore is where we resell like a thrift store. we take jelly and used items and we resell them for the fraction of the price and we use the proceeds to pay for the construction of homes for those that otherwise could not afford them.

Pierre: A place for everything and everything and everything in its place.

Billy Deyneka: It is positive, it makes you feel good, it supports the people that are coming in and buying, it um. its a great thing.

Jordan Pierre: I actually had the opportunity to volunteer for Habitat For Humanity and is still working with them to actually learn firsthand what it entailed to build a house. But most importantly, I learned the importance of being at service to others, it is through our service to others that we pay the rent for the space we take up here on earth.

SYRACUSE, N.Y (NCC NEWS) – –  In Syracuse, a local branch of a national organization is changing the landscape of the city of Syracuse through the construction of affordable homes for low-income families.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. The organization is built on the ideal that they are servants to all, finding ways to assist in any measure to help those around them.

Inside of the headquarters located at 514 West Genesee St, in Syracuse is a store called Restore that Habitat for Humanity created. The store was built with the intent to sell refurbished, old, used, recycled supplies back to those who otherwise would not be able to find home products at an affordable price. Restore turns people’s trash into treasure and places that treasure in the face of those who can use it. 

“Providing assistance to those who are in need and using the funds we collect to generate revenue to build homes for those who otherwise could not afford one,” said Nick Barone, Restore manager.

The spirit of giving is one Habitat For Humanity applauds itself on. Volunteers learn not only how to build homes but how to be of service to others and build equity for all.

Through service to others you pay the rent for the space you that up here on Earth. People who wish to volunteer for Habitat For Humanity are encouraged to sign up on their website.
