SYRACUSE, N.Y. (N.C.C News) – The Syracuse Boeheim’s Army team celebrated a victory Wednesday, bringing alumni and basketball lovers of the community together.
The Boeheim’s Army defeated The Nerd Team, making a comeback after last year’s loss in the second round. This leads them one step closer to winning the tournament’s one-million-dollar prize. Assistant coach Shaun Belbey talks about the community’s attendance at this year’s game.
“This Tournament’s great, you know, being here in Syracuse. Amazing for the community. There are a lot of fans out here tonight…so hopefully looking to pack the house on Friday and bring a good crowd,” Belbey said.
Griffin Della Penna, a Syracuse graduate student, says he’s a big fan of the Boeheim’s Army Team.
“I thought it was a great atmosphere, it was really cool for all of Syracuse to come and rally around this team of former players in the program,” Griffin said.
Coach Belbey says the team’s efforts this year made a difference in their performance as a whole.
“Tough game. We fought through it and luckily were able to come out with a win so I’m super excited for Friday night,” Belbey said.
The Boeheim’s Army will continue out the tournament this Friday. They play Buffalo’s Blue-Collar U at the UCenter Arena at 9 p.m.
