I spoke with Epicuse owner Nicole Samolis today to ask about the popular Downtown Syracuse event, Dining Week. In particular, why is this event so important to new food businesses in Downtown?

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) – The Downtown Committee in Syracuse earlier this year held its 16th annual Dining Week event. This occasion gives restaurants a chance to serve a variety of foods in the form of full meals at cheaper prices. Starting in 2005, Downtown Dining Weeks has nearly tripled in business participation over the course of 16 years. Forty-six food businesses were scheduled to part in 2020. This year, the event saw eight new restaurants. One of these eight new businesses is Epicuse on South Salina Street.

Epicuse and Sky Armory owner Nicole Samolis believes the event is crucial to the promotion of the Downtown area.

“What it does is it helps give restaurants added exposure to more people, different markets that they’re not typically accessing just because the strength of the Downtown Committee promoting this as well, it just gets out to a lot more people,” says Samolis.

The Downtown Committee started this event with only 17 food businesses involved. Now, Downtown Dining Weeks is a popular experience for people trying to explore the Downtown area. It especially stands out for its timing in the quieter winter months.

“Typically February is a quieter time of year, and so that was really one of the reasons too that Downtown Dining Weeks was created was to help drive traffic to the restaurants during those cold winter months,” says Samolis.

Along with Epicuse, the other seven food businesses debuting in Downtown Dining Weeks this year are: The Brine Well Eatery, Jail Hoss Rock Cafe, Margaritas Mexican Cantina, PMA Foods, Talking Cursive Brewing Co., Oh My Darling and the Gilded Club.

The event ran through March 1st at any of the 46 listed restaurants on the Downtown Committee website.
