A SUNY School Combating Low Enrollment Numbers A SUNY School Trying To Combat Low Enrollment Numbers

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – State University of New York Oswego is waiving application fees for the first time from Nov. 8-21. This fee waiving is due to SUNY schools across the state seeing decreases in their applications. Chief Communication Officer at SUNY Oswego Wayne Westervelt said “Across the state numbers are down.”

While the waiver is said to create awareness for the school, it’s also an extra incentive to apply to Oswego. “This was our approach to going big and bold,” Westervelt said. “With the decrease in higher education coming out of this pandemic, this is the right year.”

Coming out of a pandemic where they saw grad student numbers increase, but undergrad students decrease. This early November treat fell right during the application period.

“That’s the prime time for students so we want them to think Suny Oswego,” Westervelt said.

Applying now also enters students into a scholarship of up to $20,000 without any extra paperwork. Westervelt said they are hoping to see a bigger incoming class this next school year, and hope this waiver was a part of that in making students really take a look at SUNY Oswego.
