Tony Massello has been working at Massello Auto Service for 40 years. With that much time spent in Syracuse he’s seen some pretty bad winters. The one that stands out the most to him came eight years ago when there was snow seemingly every day.
With snow in the forecast for the upcoming week, there are plenty of things drivers need to know about for the next couple of days. Aside from the obvious of getting your battery checked, an oil change and having an emergency kit handy, Massello says there are some extra precautions that need to be looked at for central New York residents.
The stuff they put on the roads is very, very harmful to your car,” Massello said. “You got to make sure to try to keep it as clean as possible underneath. Roads were dangerous, a lot of car accidents.”
But living in Central New York brings different challenges to winter drivers. Which may include special types of parts.
“When we sell them tires, we make sure the tires are good for central New York,” Massello said. “Even though they’re all seasons, not all all-season tires are good for central New York.”
Along with making sure other things like air pressures, batteries, and keeping up to date with the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, Massello wants to make sure his customers don’t experience any of winter’s lethalities.
“We make sure the car is as ready as possible for our customers for winter,” Massello said. “Because winter time is no time to have a breakdown or find out that your tires are bad when you’re in a ditch somewhere. So we try to educate our customers and just let them know what’s going on with their vehicles. Try to keep them as safe as possible with a minimum amount that they have to spend out of pocket for it and if we can keep on top of the cars for them.”
