Children’s Consignment Sale Goes Toward Bigger Cause Children's Consignment Sale Goes Toward Bigger Cause

CLAY, N.Y. (NCC News) — Polka Tots Children’s Consignment holds one of three yearly sales, but it means more to owner, Jana Roy, than just making a quick buck.

“People love supporting things like this when they’re purchasing tickets,” Roy said.

Families from all parts of New York came to the Great Northern Mall to buy their children toys or clothes, but this was no normal sale for the people that paid to shop early. Over 300 shoppers bought presale tickets to get a first look at all the items stocked on the shelves. All of the proceeds from the presale went toward Golisano Children’s Hospital and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Crouse Health.

“Tons of our shoppers and consignors have babies from the NICU and they don’t mind buying a ticket if that means the proceeds go there,” Roy said.

Her own experience with these hospitals was a driving cause to donate to them, as her own son was in and out of Golisano’s for the first year of his life. What Roy cares about the most is these donations from the sale can help other families checking into these hospitals get the best possible care.

“Whatever the moms need, whatever the babies need. If they need blankets, if they need clothes. If the moms need food. Whatever they think they need up there, it doesn’t matter,` Roy said.

Over 300 people from around New York State have already bought tickets toward getting their child clothes or toys, but Polka Tot Children’s Consignment Sale Owner, Jana Roy puts the profit toward something much bigger.

“I can’t think of a better place to donate the money to.”

Polka Tot holds three sales per year and donates their proceeds to Golisano Children’s Hospital and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Crouse Health. Roy says these donations are close to her heart because her youngest son was in and out of Golisano for the first year of his life. She knows how expensive it can be and wants all proceeds to help other families in these facilities.

“Whatever the moms need, whatever the babies need. If they need blankets, if they need clothes. If the moms need food. Whatever they think they need up there, it doesn’t matter.”

Roy says that all unsold items during the sale will be donated to the Syracuse Rescue Mission. James Kattato… NCC News.
