The secret lies in the scoring of 4 German players who have scored 99 percent of the goals during their eight game winning streak. These players came in waves for the team over the last 2 years and have adjusted to college life and culture fairly quickly.
Salar Faryar was the first German to join the Lemoyne team in 2016. He says the hardest part to adjust to was the language.

Faryar says he was forced to become aquanited with English very quickly. However, This was not the case for Robert Rohrisch, the last German to join the team in August. He says his fellow Germans act as mini translators for him.

(” When they get over here, the transition for some of them is tough, and they’ve got to be able to reach out for help. And I think LeMoyne, because we’re a smaller school, we are able to help them with the transtion.”)

A smaller school could mean more individual attention, but this cannot solve how much Rohrichs misses the food…

(” It’s very funny to discuss with people. Hey how do you do that in Germany. And then I tell them how to do it in the Germany. And then they tell me how to do it in the US. Its sometimes really funny stories.”)

The LeMoyne men’s soccer team is full of players from different states and countries. They are currently on an eight game win streak as they enter the first round of the Northeast 10 conference tournament today. The secret to their success has been the four Germans who have scored 99% of the goals during the win streak.

Salar Faryar is the oldest of the group. The junior from Frankfurt, Germany joined the team in 2016 and was all alone. The hardest thing to adjust to was the language.

“You know, you want to express yourself. The words are there, but sometimes you just can’t get it out,” said Faryar.

Faryar led the team in scoring his freshman year and was named to the regional team. By his sophomore year, Le Moyne added two more Germans to the roster in Niklas Breunung and Marek Weber. This past August, they added sophomore Robert Rohrhirsch to the team as well.

Rohrhirsch says the language barrier did not effect him as much since the other Germans act as mini translators for him. “I don’t know many things to do, what to do. I can just ask them and if I need someone to talk to in German so I can express myself better, then they are always there. So they help me a lot,” said Rohrhirsch.

Head Coach Tom Bonus credits different scouting companies to bringing over the cluster of German’s. When recruiting them, it was mainly through Skype and Bonus was looking for a few key traits.

“We want them to be outgoing, their academics to be on point, and to know they are about the team. These guys show they are about the team every chance they get and we are grateful for them,” said Bonus.

LeMoyne men’s soccer finished first in the conference for the first time ever this season. A lot of the credit to the cluster of Germans acting as a international scoring machine.
