India On Full Lockdown To Limit Coronavirus Spread, Affecting Millions India On Full Lockdown To Limit Coronavirus Spread, Affecting Millions

NEW DELHI (NCC News) – One of the countries taking things to the extreme regarding the Coronavirus has been India. As of Monday, there had been 1,024 recorded cases of the virus, and 27 deaths in India. The country’s Prime Minister Narenda Modi issued a 21-day lockdown nationwide as a means to stop the spread of the virus in India.

In an address last week, Modi stressed the importance of social distancing, saying:

“Social distancing is not just for the sick, but for each and every person, including you and even your family,” said Modi.

Practicing social distancing has been something that has been too difficult for some in the country, but for about 74 million people, 1/6th of India’s population, it is not so easy as they live in the county’s slums.

Law enforcement in the country has taken things to the extreme, punishing those who do not adhere to the country’s lockdown through physical violence.

This lockdown has forced those who are impoverished in India, to make a tough decision to go out and help their families by working for around $3.91 a day and be punished, or stay home and their families go hungry.
