Lights On The Lake Returns to CNY

By Josh Golden SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Lights On The Lake, the annual holiday light show on Onondaga Lake, is officially underway. The event is put on every year by Galaxy Media, who organize other events throughout the year such as Taste of Syracuse and Baconfest.

Event coordinator for Galaxy Media Zach Fenner says that Lights On The Lake is one of his favorite events and one of the biggest of the year for Galaxy. The event, which Fenner describes as “a drive through of about two miles and you’re going to see lots of colorful lights including sections like under the sea, or holiday traditions.” Fenner also adds that there are light displays of Santa’s workshop, elves working, an entire sports section, and more.

The annual light show has been a tradition here in Central New York for over 20 years now, and has become a mainstay for many Central New Yorkers in the holiday season. Fenner says that “for those who haven’t been there, it’s something that needs to be on your bucket list every year. ” In fact, adding new lights in every year to the event keeps the scene fresh and keeps many people coming back every year.

For Central New York resident Lindsay Gordon, Lights on the Lake has been a family tradition for about five years now and it’s something that is loved across three generations of her family. Gordon’s parents brought her to the event for the first time, saying that “my daughter loved it, I’m grown but I loved to go with my parents. We ended up doing it every holiday.”

Families like the Gordon family can come down to Onondaga Lake any time until January 14th. However, prices do increase later in the week, so the cheapest opportunity to attend is on Mondays and Tuesdays for just $6 a carload. Prices are raised to $10 on Wednesdays and Thursdays and $20 on weekends.

Holiday season has begun, which means lights on the lake has returned here in CNY. Galaxy Media’s Zach Fenner says you can expect more from the event than just Santa and his reindeer.

(“It is a drive through of about two miles and you’re going to see lots of colorful lights including sections like under the sea, or holiday traditions. You’re going to see light displays of Santa’s workshop, of the elves working, we have a whole sports section where we have little characters swinging a ball at stuff.”)

Lights on the lake has been an annual tradition here in CNY for over two decades and Fenner says every local should experience the event.

(“Well, for those who haven’t been there, it’s something that needs to be on your bucket list every year. It’s been going on 20 plus years and is really one of the biggest CNY holiday traditions that we have.”)

Many CNY residents do attend the event annually, including Lindsay Gordon, who’s love for lights on the lake now spans three generations.

(“My parents actually brought me here for the first time. My daughter loved it, I’m grown but I loved to go with my parents. We ended up doing it every holiday.”)
