BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (NCC News)  – Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon announced additional investments into Onondaga Lake Park.

The area has been the subject of government attention for many years. In 2022, the City of Syracuse introduced a 12-step plan expected to cost $108 million to enhance the area around Onondaga Lake.

McMahon made the announcement at Willow Bay Park, an area within Onondaga Lake Park. According to McMahon, investments will not stop here.

“In the next year, we’ll be talking about separate legislation that will go to the legislature to improve the marina and add more marina slots to further provide access to the water for the public,” McMahon said.

Rumors of an enhanced marina have been swirling. Residents have been asking for improvements to be made to the current marina, as slots are filled to capacity and wait times being as long as three years to get one.

McMahon is in the midst of a re-election campaign. The incumbent County Executive, a Republican, faces Bill Kinne, a Democrat. Kinne is a member of the Onondaga County Legislature who has been critical of many of McMahon’s policies.

One of which is the proposal to build an $85 million aquarium in Onondaga County, which is part of McMahon’s platform which he and supporters believe will enhance resident’s leisure options, a platform which also includes investment in Onondaga Lake Park and the areas surrounding it.
