Hey there! I heard you ask Alexa for the news, but she’t not a reporter… so you’re stuck with me instead…

This is Liam McMonagle with your NCC News Brief for September 25

The Department of Environmental Conservation will have a public hearing tonight at the OnCenter to discuss the fate of the Onondaga Lake Trail. Plans for the trail were initially released last year, but push back surrounding environmental concerns have caused DEC to reconsider its plans. The trail will go through Murphy’s Island, a known habitat for Bald Eagles.
Diana Green says tonight’s hearing is crucial for the decision making process.

[SOT] “You know they can’t say that people aren’t concerned, and that they’re really upset about the choice they’re making”

In more environmental news, the DEC just bought the Cleveland Elementary School grounds for future training programs. The old Oswego school will now serve to train Forest Rangers, ECO police, and lead other programs in the state. Assemblyman Will Barclay says it makes sense to keep the training programs in Oswego County because of their natural resources and space.

A4
In national news, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced an official impeachment inquiry into the President.

[SOT] “The actions taken to date by the President have seriously violated the constitution, especially when the President says ‘article II says I can do whatever I want.’”

This comes after growing pressure from house democrats, including a new caucus of moderate voices and calls from other members of Democratic Leadership like John Lewis.

Leaders here in Central New York are divided. Rep John Katko called Pelosi’s actions a “dramatic overstep,” but his challengers disagree. Syracuse Democrat Dana Balter says these actions warrant inquiry, and another challenger, Wayne County Democrat Roger Misso, has been actively calling for impeachment for about 4 months now. Both are running to challenge Katko for the congressional seat.

That’s all the news Alexa can remember right now… ask again tomorrow! Until then,
