GAS PRICES ARE HIGHER NOW THAN AT ANY POINT IN THE PAST YEAR. LOCAL BUSINESS PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING TO COPE, LIKE CONSTRUCTION WORKER AUSTIN LOTTS.

Austin Lotts: “Struggling during coronavirus and then we get out of coronavirus and now you’re struggling with the gas. You just can’t win. In this day and age there’s just no such thing as winning anymore, it’s just trying to keep up.”

Reporter: THE END OF THE PANDEMIC HAS BEEN BAD NEWS FOR DOGS, WITH THE LOSS OF FREE TIME CREATING A TROUBLING TREND FOR THE PET INDUSTRY ACCORDING TO DOG FOSTER MOM LISA GOLTRY.

Lisa Goltry: “During the pandemic people got puppies and then they surrendered them because they went back to work, or you know they didn’t have time. A lot of the charities that work with pets were getting inundated with a lot of surrenders.”

Reporter: JULY FOURTH IS A TIME FOR FIREWORKS, BUT THEIR CONTINUED USE HAS LED TO A POLICE RESPONSE. FOR LOCALS LIKE DAN O’CONNOR, THE ONSLAUGHT OF FIREWORKS HAS BEEN NOTICEABLY CONSTANT.

Dan O’Connor: “Obviously on the fourth they were crazy and they just kept going through the night and I was like I wish they would just stop. I would say several days leading up to it and I heard a couple last night – for sure a few last night. I am anticipating hearing a few tonight.”

Reporter: SYRACUSE POLICE FORMED A DETAIL TO CONFISCATE FIREWORKS STILL IN USE AND ISSUE FINES.

TODAY’S RAINY WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK. AFTER TWO DAYS OF THUNDERSTORMS, THERE IS A 100% CHANCE OF RAIN TOMORROW. THE LIGHTNING IS EXPECTED TO RETURN TOMORROW NIGHT AND PERSIST THROUGH FRIDAY BEFORE WE FINALLY SEE SOME SUN THIS WEEKEND.
