JOEY SEMEL: THIS IS YOUR NCC NEWSBRIEF. IT’S JUNE SIXTEENTH. I’M JOEY SEMEL. OUR FIRST STORY FOCUSES ON A GROUP HOPING TO BRING JOBS TO THE EASTSIDE OF SYRACUSE. THE SYRACUSE NORTHEAST COMMUNITY CENTER HOSTED A JOB FAIR TODAY, AIMING TO MATCH POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS WITH FUTURE EMPLOYEES.

DONNA MOORE: WELL OUR PROGRAM HAS BEEN DEVELOPING FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS AND WE HAVE A LOT OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT WE SERVE. SO WE THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE ACTUALLY HIRING AND HAVE A CHANCE TO TALK TO THEM.

SEMEL: INDEPENDENCE DAY IS JUST A FEW WEEKS AWAY. FIREWORK SALES ARE SEEING AN UNPRECEDENTED BOOST AHEAD OF THE HOLIDAY THIS YEAR.

JULIE HECKMAN: CONSUMER SALES, NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. JUST… INDUSTRY REVENUE WENT FROM 1 BILLION TO 2.1 BILLION.

SEMEL: AND ONE LOCAL SPORTS BROADCASTER HAS BIG DREAMS AHEAD. EVAN STOCKTON CALLS GAMES FOR THE SYRACUSE METS, AND WHILE HE HOPES TO BE WITH A BIG LEAGUE CLUB ONE DAY, HE’S JUST ENJOYING THE MOMENT RIGHT NOW.

EVAN STOCKTON: SO SIX YEAR OLD EVAN WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS JOB, AND 26 YEAR OLD EVAN ALSO LOVES THIS JOB.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — A local organization is looking to bring jobs to the Eastside of Syracuse. The Syracuse Northeast Community Cnter hosted a job fair at the Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse. Their goal was simple: match potential employers with future employees in a spot they might not think to look.

With Independence Day just a few weeks away, sales of fireworks have seen an unusual boost recently. The revenue of the firework industry has grown from $1 billion to $2.2 billion, according to the executive director of the Pyrotechnics Association.

And one local sports broadcaster has big dreams ahead. Evan Stockton calls games for the Syracuse Mets, and while he hopes to be with a big league club one day, he’s just enjoying the moment right now.
