You can get your child car seats checked today by certified child passenger safety technicians. The Manlius Police Department hosts free child seat protection inspections from four this afternoon until eight. The event is part of a state police initiative to offer free inspections. You can book a half hour time slot online. Walk-ins are also welcome.
A Syracuse woman was hospitalized this morning for burns to her arm and hand after an apartment fire. The fire broke out just past three o’clock this morning on the two-thousand block of East Fayette Street. Crews put out the kitchen fire in five minutes. No one else was injured. Investigators determined unattended cooking caused the fire.
The entire boy’s varsity soccer team at Oswego High School spent today at home. The Oswego City School District says all team members are in quarantine after possible exposure to the coronavirus in a recent game. The district says all games and practices are suspended until further notice.
Oswego’s soccer team played against Baker High School in Baldwinsville last Saturday. Twenty-four students and five staff members at Baker are quarantining after one player tested positive for COVID-19. The Baldwinsville Central School District says that student is in isolation.
Also in Baldwinsville, 16 students and four staff members at McNamara Elementary are quarantining today. One student tested positive for the virus. The district says the cases at the two schools are unrelated. The district sent a letter to families saying both schools will remain open.
And the season’s first dusting of snow is in the forecast for Friday. Budget cuts crippled the Syracuse Department of Public Works this year. Commissioner Jeremy Robinson says there’s always money for snow removal, but he hopes for another mild winter this year to save the city some cash.
JEREMY ROBINSON: We prepare ourselves for the worst but I’m very thankful that it hasn’t happened yet. And this weekend, you know,it might blow over as we might get a little dusting in the morning, but it’ll be nothing that I need to send any plows out.
