SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – After COVID-19 caused the cancelation of the 2020 New York State Fair, its return brought hope of the arrival of normalcy as well as joy to many New Yorkers. With the recent surge in COVID-19 cases due to the delta variant, there seems to be a rise in concerns regarding the safety protocols the fair will be implementing.

Public relations manager Dave Bullard said that the Fair “is following all state protocols” and even going above and beyond.

With the addition of its new contactless entrances, socially distanced vendors and amped-up sanitizing protocols, the fair has met all requirements. Although the CDC recommends that residents in Onondaga County wear masks even if they are vaccinated, the fair will only require unvaccinated patrons to strap on a mask.

But that’s not the case if you plan on taking the GoCentro transit from the designated free lots to the fairground. Bullard said that masks are federally mandated on the busses, “no ifs, ands, or buts.”

The fair will run for its longest duration of 18 days and it plans on seeing many patrons, but as Bullard put it quite frankly, they have done their part and now it is up to the fairgoers.

The fair recommends patrons prepay for admission tickets, as well as parking tickets by either using their website or by calling to help the compliance of their COVID protocols and the safety of its fairgoers.
