PORTLAND, ORE. (NCC NEWS) – Wednesday night, Mayor Ted Wheeler joined Portland citizens on the front line of the protesting. The Mayor’s intentions were to thank the thousands of protestors who came out to oppose the Trump administration’s takeover of the city. Unfortunately, Mayor Wheeler was treated like any other citizen, with a face full of tear gas.
According to ABC, President Trump sent Federal Agents to manage unrest in the city of Portland. As cars and buildings continued to be set on fire, the order for tear gas and smoke grenades to be released was given. ABC Reporter Kayna Whitworth has been in the city for countless hours covering the protesting.
“Agents issuing several warnings after protestors breached the wall around the courthouse. Lighting fireworks and several small fires outside of the building. Agents responding with flash bangs then tear gas,” says Whitworth.
In an article by ABC, Whitworth reports how the Federal Agents were raising the potency level of the tear gas, until protestors finally retreated. The gas was so strong it left members of the press severely hurt.
“Portland Police stopping to assist a member of the press badly injured. He is taken away in an ambulance. A fate so many have experienced, in more than two months of unrest in Portland,” reported Whitworth.
According to Mayor Wheeler, the demands and voices in the city or Portland will continue to be heard until a difference is made. Mayor Wheeler informed CNN how he wants Federal Officials out of his city. “The tactics they are using are dangerous and abhorant.”
Portland protestors say they will continue to fight for social justice and racial inequality, no matter how many Federal Officials are sent in.
