SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Three students living on the eighth floor of Day Hall, a Syracuse University dorm, tested positive for COVID-19, the University announced on Sunday.
All other floor residents were required to get tested Sunday afternoon and quarantine in their dorm rooms until the test results are received. The quarantine is “likely” to last “24-48 hours,” according to an email from the University.
Day Hall residents living on other floors were not required to get tested, but instead were “encouraged” to do so by J. Michael Haynie, the University’s Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation.
According to Haynie, the University has begun contact tracing for those who have interacted with residents of Day Hall’s eighth floor. Once identified, the University will then offer those contacts COVID-19 testing.
Syracuse University reported five new cases in Central New York today on the school’s COVID-19 Dashboard. According to the dashboard, there are currently 31 active cases on campus and 105 students in quarantine.
