SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCCNews)— It was a winter wonderland Thursday morning in the Salt City. More than a foot of snow hit Syracuse overnight. Temperatures were hovering around a chilly 25°F, setting the stage for a wintry scene across the city.
We saw moderate to heavy snow showers blanketing Central New York, significantly reducing visibility on the roads to about half a mile. Those going out were urged to exercise caution and allow for extra travel time to navigate through the snowy conditions.
In addition, the roads were looking extremely rough. Many streets across the city remained unplowed, with a thick layer of snow making for hazardous driving conditions.
Likewise, sidewalks and walkways are becoming increasingly slippery. Pedestrians are advised to wear sturdy footwear and take it slow to avoid any slips or falls.
As the morning progressed, temperatures were expected to climb only slightly, reaching around 27°F by mid-morning. However, with the wind chill factor, it was likely to feel even colder outside.
Expect mostly cloudy conditions after that with a high of 27°F in the afternoon.
