SYRACUSE, N.Y. (N.C.C. News) — In the midst of the pandemic Syracuse’s unemployment rate quadrupled. Throughout all of this, the bright side is that they will most likely be entering phase 2 of reopening in the very near future.
A lot of businesses have suffered and will most likely close even after the end of COVID-19. But some small businesses seem to be thriving, now more than ever.
Jesseca Sutherland of Queens, New York owns her own baked goods business called- Jessica’s Sweet Street. Business has actually been better than expected. She suspects the quarantine has raised the demand in sweets for local residents due to everyone being home.
But Central New York’s neighbor to the south, New York City, has a ways to go before it can be in the same lane as Syracuse. Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City may be able to enter Phase 1 of reopening in early June.
