SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Another season of Mets baseball began in Syracuse Tuesday. The New York Mets triple-A affiliate played its first home contest at NBT Bank Stadium. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the organization. Broadcaster Evan Stockton said, “It’s a really vibrant environment to be a part of off the field, and then on the field we are blessed to start the year. We’ve got maybe the best four Mets prospects here in Syracuse to start the season.”
Those four stars and the entire team took the field for an afternoon matchup against the Rochester Red Wings. Despite a morning rain shower, Stockton anticipated a great crowd. “We’re going to have a good crowd,” said the Syracuse University alumnus. “We’re going to have a good crowd today. We’re going to have a good crowd all week. The weather should stop.”
The weather did in fact clear up to provide for a comfortable afternoon for a crowd of nearly 6,000 people. In the end, the Mets put on a show to open the slate at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse blanked Rochester 5-0. The Mets play the Red Wings again for the next four days. Syracuse hosts 75 total contests throughout the season.
