SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Central New York is heating up, and Syracuse residents are looking to cool off at city pools and spray parks.
But with the uncertainty of the availability of chlorine for city pools, residents are concerned another shutdown may occur.
City pools were forced to close last Thursday due to a chlorine shortage. The city’s supplier was unable to make a routine delivery because they didn’t have enough drivers trained in delivering and handling the chemical.
Of the seven outdoor pools opened for the summer, five reopened that following Friday. That includes Kirk, Lincoln, Onondaga, Schiller and Thornden Park pools.
Two pools, McKinley and Wilson, remain closed for the season because of the shortage.
For now, the other city pools remain open and invite residents to reserve a time to enjoy open swim. Reservations may be made by calling the pool; phones are being monitored from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m each day.
For most, pool hours are noon to 6 p.m., but are subject to change depending on the weather and staffing availability.
In the event another shut down may occur, the city recommends cooling off in spray parks available around city parks.
