GLENVIEW, Ill (NCC News) – Many kids, and parents, look forward to summer league sports. COVID-19 cancelled the remainder of the spring school semester, including spring sports. Whether or not summer sports and camps would happen was a big question mark.

TeamONE Lacrosse Club was not going to sit and watch the summer roll by. The youth organization is based in the northern suburbs of Chicago and works to spread the game of lacrosse in the midwest.

Following the health mandates from the country and state, the directors worked hard to find a way to safely stay in action.  Director Kelly Kubach focuses on keeping parents and players informed.

“There are a lot of families that are on different ends of the spectrum of how comfortable they feel with traveling and contact sports,” she said.

TeamONE has 38 teams, adding up to around 800 players. With so many players, a normal season would have four teams per facility. The new guidelines allow a maximum of 50 kids, cutting the number of full teams down to two.

“So that drastically changed our training, as well as the way that the kids interact with one another, and the coaches,” says Kubach.

She emphasizes safety as the number one priority to the sports club. Despite the situation, TeamONE hopes to keep some normalcy and competitive spirit within their players.
