Tim’s Pumpkin Patch: Family-Owned and Family-Loved Tim's Pumpkin Patch: Family Owned and Family Loved

Hear about what makes Tim's so loved.

GEORGE HASHEMI: Though the leaves are changing, one thing is not; Tim’s pumpkin patch. Located just outside of Syracuse, Tim’s had been a fall tradition for over 30 years. Every year kids and adults alike rush into the sea of orange, hoping to find the perfect pumpkin. The patch is family-friendly and a family business. Owners, Tim and Erica Leubner run the patch with their three daughters. The torch might be soon passed to them.

CLAUDIA LEUBNER: Now that my sister and I are back from school, we’re kinda realizing that we’re gonna be taking it over someday. And we definitely want to help in the best ways possible that we can.

HASHEMI: When Leubner was 15, he planted 200 pumpkin seeds. To his surprise, they grew. 35 years later and they’re still growing.

HASHEMI: The patch is now over 70 acres with a lot more to offer than just pumpkins.

LEUBNER: Yeah, so we are definitely, obviously very family-oriented pumpkin farm. I think that we’re very diverse now that we have the brew barn. We have a corn maze. We do have our dairy farm up the road. I think that we always kinda made it a really fun experience for our families to come. Not just, you know, the more adult-oriented places.

HASHEMI: For some, Tim’s is more than just a patch or picking pumpkins. For Alfred Zappala, it’s his chance to be a part of the community.

ALFRED ZAPALLA: We’re here because we love the place so very much. It’s wonderful. The pumpkins are so sweet and beautiful. You can’t get any better.

HASHEMI: Zappala is involved in AccessCNY. It’s a program that offers services to the disabled. They often take trips to places like Tim’s, even if they are a little far out. For staff member Ellen Aldrich, it’s worth it every time.

ELLEN ALDRICH: They had a ball here. Oh yes. The smiles. I just love their faces, you know. They just have a ball here and they’re always so appreciative.

HASHEMI: Family-owned, family-friendly, and perfect for fall. Tim’s pumpkin patch has it all. For NCC News, I’m George Hashemi.
