SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — June was a busy month on the court, field and ice rink as championships were won at every level.
Starting with the Women’s College World Series, the outfielders put on a show all week long, making game changing plays over and over. Alabama was the lowest seed to make it to Oklahoma City and a large part of that was the web gems and speed around the field by outfielder, Kristen White. In a crucial matchup between the Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators, White snagged a ball out of the sky to prevent a run from scoring.
At the beginning of the month the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies squared off in a two-game series in London. It was in the bottom of the 9th inning that the Phillies had the bases loaded and one out, threatening a comeback until Luis Torrens made a double play from behind the plate to end the game.
The NHL finals have lived up to every bit of the hype as the Florida Panthers go against the Edmonton Oilers. As the Panthers took a three-game lead and only needed one more win to clinch the title, highlight plays from the Oilers have tied up the series and brought it all the way to game seven Monday night.
The Men’s College World Series has been one for the ages, not just in Omaha, but the road it took for all eight teams to get there. It started with Kentucky baseball which made impressive plays to win regionals at home and later punch their ticket to the Nebraska.
Lastly, the number one play is a moment in the 2024 NBA Championship game that will go down in history for the Boston Celtics, who won their first championship since 2008.
July will have a tough task to beat all of the highlight plays in June, but with the race getting tighter in the WNBA, MLB, professional softball, and golf, anything is possible.
