REPORTER: Reaction to Jim Boeheim saying “I think its about time” to remove masks at the Dome seems to be mixed, as some students seem to be wary of returning to normalcy too quickly

EDUARDO HERNANDEZ: I think its better to be on the side of caution and actually wear the masks when everybody’s sweaty especially in the students section.

REPORTER: However, other students are all on board, claiming that since most students already don’t use masks in the Dome, it shouldn’t be required anymore.

PEYTON PRZYGODA: When you’re going to the stadium you’re already seeing people aren’t wearing masks they pull it down and its not really enforced anyways.”

REPORTER: On Monday, the university changed requirements for masks so that they are not required for vaccinated students outdoors or in non-academic buildings.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)- Questions were raised Monday night, when Jim Boeheim,  Syracuse men’s basketball head coach, said that he thought “it was about time” for masks to not be required at the Dome. This statement comes the same week Syracuse University changed their masking requirements on campus and in non-academic buildings.

On campus, there have been mixed responses to this. SU student Eduardo Hernandez said that he hoped a more cautious approach would be taken by the university before rescinding all masking requirements.

“I think its better to be on the side of caution and actually wear the masks when everybody’s sweaty especially in the students section” Hernandez said.

However, other students, like sophomore Peyton Przygoda, agree with Boeheim and think masks should taken off in the Dome.

“When you’re going to the stadium you’re already seeing people aren’t wearing masks they pull it down and its not really enforced anyways” Przygoda said.

The next home game for the Orange will be on Saturday against Duke at the Dome.
